Sycamore Lodge, Jackson Springs, NC

Image
We left Lazy Llama on October 8th and drove over to Jackson Springs, NC to spend two weeks at Sycamore Lodge. The campground is located in a pine forest and the roads and sites are all hard packed sand. The sites were nice and roomy.  Even with all of the trees our satellite dish still worked. We had to move to another site after the first week. The second site was better and the trees did not block any of the satellites. The campground is known for the Haunted Forest they do on the weekends in October. The weekends are really busy. They also had an auction that raised a lot of money for local charities. Greg did some fishing at the resort’s lake which is catch & release. He caught a few little Brim, but found out that the fish were conditioned to hit pieces of hotdog. No, he did not buy any hotdogs for bait. We went into Aberdeen to shop several times. One afternoon we went to the Railhouse Brewery (Veteran Owned) (https://www.railhousebrewery.com) and had some good beer...

Lazy Llama, Chuckey, TN

A great little campground Greg found for Cheryl's birthday. We arrived on October 1, finding great weather and the best view in the park. Our site looked directly on the meadow of the farm where the llamas came down every afternoon. We also went on a wagon ride for guests at the park to the barn. At the barn we got to see and pet two newborn crias and got mingle with the adult llamas. They are so soft! We eent to the Black Olive for birthday pizza. It was so good. We shopped at several local markets, and got fresh bread, donuts, etc. The park is small with lots of full time residents. The owners are awesome, very knowledgeable about their llamas. Belle Ridge, Monterey, TN

Image
We checked into Belle Ridge on the 24th of September, just a short drive from our previous location in Crossville, so it was an easy travel day. Belle Ridge is a gated park but the gate wasn't activated while we were there. Our site was large but too close to the highway, the noise at night was loud. There are sites further from the road and we'd try to get one of those next time. We found a little hole in the wall restaurant, Don't Matter Cafe, in Monterey. Best catfish EVER! We dined in once, very small dining area, and carried out once. We went to the local Mennonite community known for making sorghum syrup and cookies, shopping at several markets, fresh pastries, awesome sandwiches on homemade bread. We went to Cookeville one day to explore, found an awesome little coffee shop, Broast Tennessee Coffee Roasters, Cheryl had a triple chocolate mocha which she thoroughly enjoyed. Greg had his usual dark roast. Also went to Ralph's Donut Shop, although the reviews were ...
