Windemere Cove, Langston, AL
Our stay at Windemere Cove began on the 2nd of September. Windemere Cove would turn out to be one of our favorite places so far. It is a distance from everything so it is quiet most of the time. The exception is football game time as a number of the campers here actually own their site and they have made improvements that include patios, cabanas, tv’s, and outdoor kitchens. At game time they have parties, even then it is not overly noisy.
Windemere Cove is situated on Lake Guntersville with direct access to the Tennessee River. There are two boat docks and a boat ramp. Greg fished from the dock and caught some small Largemouth Bass, they were a little too small to keep. He enjoyed being out there in the calm early morning. There is a boardwalk along the lake that makes access to the main dock easy and safe. From the board walk we were able to see the resident Great Blue Heron and the first evening we saw a huge owl, it was getting late so there was not enough light to make a good identification of the owl. It appeared like he was looking for his evening meal.
The only real negative about Windemere Cove is its remoteness, it is about ten miles down a two lane road and it takes a little while to get restaurants and shopping. Being as far out as it is the cell service is not great, it works though. Our Verizon and Sprint hotspots were able to keep us connected to the internet.
The pool at the clubhouse was really nice and well kept. The water was a little on the cold side but it was very relaxing. The campground is on a slight slope toward the lake. We enjoyed morning walks with the view of the lake.
The nearest town is Scottsboro, AL and it has a really nice town center that wraps around the courthouse. They have a nice coffee shop, a pastry/doughnut shop and a number of small stores. It is old, but clean and safe.
Another adventure was to Rainesville, AL for catfish at Katy’s Katfish. The restaurant is in an old log building that was pretty cool.
Overall, the weather was the best or coolest so far. We enjoyed sitting outside in the mornings with coffee and taking in the view.
For Greg’s birthday we went to a local Mexican restaurant, it was not the greatest we have had and certainly not the worst. It was still nice to get out and celebrate.
